A security tool’s update channel can become its most dangerous surface.
If a scanner loads detection rules it cannot verify, whoever controls that channel can quietly change what the product trusts, detects or blocks.
Nick 5.1 now signs and verifies protection updates before loading them.
Detection logic deserves the same trust boundary as application code.

Treating the update channel as part of the trust boundary is a good point, since a scanner that loads unsigned rules is only as safe as whoever controls the feed. Signing and verifying updates before loading them in Nick 5.1 sounds like the right fix. How do you handle key rotation or a compromised signing key, and does Nick fall back to the last known good rules if verification fails?
