I boosted a three line post for $10. About 450 followers in a day.

My best connect post on X was three lines and a photo:

I'm 36
Solo founder from the Netherlands
Looking to connect with more builders & indie hackers!

Once it was already doing well, I boosted it for $10.

Technically that's an ad. But nobody sees it that way. It's a normal post from a person, and people reply to it like any other post.

It ended at 94K views, 474 replies and 975 likes. I went from 1,350 followers to about 1,800 in a day. Roughly 450 followers for $10.

My 4 rules for boosting

  1. Only boost a post built to turn into follows. A connect post asks people to connect. A normal post mostly buys impressions: tens of thousands of views and a handful of followers.

  2. Boost what already works. Let the post prove itself first, with replies coming in.

  3. Clear your calendar. A boost sends you hundreds of replies. The follows come from answering them fast, with names.

  4. Skip the bots. Boosts attract engagement farmers. Don't follow them back, they never talk to you.

And if it works, do it again. Four days later I posted the same three lines and boosted them again.

The rest of how I went from 400 to 2,000 followers in 17 days is in my full X growth playbook.

Boosting it only after it was already doing well is the part most people skip — putting $10 behind a proven post instead of a cold one. And the fact that it reads like a normal post from a person, not an ad, is exactly why people reply to it.
